“Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who carried out wicked schemes,” Psalm 37:7
I HATE WAITING!! I don’t know anybody who likes waiting for something they really want. We have a tendency to want it all and we want it NOW!! Praying about it is the easy part but waiting for the manifestation of that prayer is where it is hard especially when you have to wait for a long time.
God’s word instructs us to “rest in the Lord and wait patiently for him,” (Psalm 37:7). When we rest in the Lord and in His promises we have an assurance that God will always come through for us in His timing.
When you look around you and see people who do not know God or who are blatantly disobeying him ‘appear’ to be prospering “do not fret,” (Psalm 37:7). Your time will come!!! We can rest in God and His promises!!! “God is not a human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill,” Numbers 23:19.
God always fulfills his promises, it’s up to us to believe it by faith and follow through with our actions, when we do its just a matter of time (See the blog I wrote Fighting the good fight).
I know all about waiting and it is not easy!!! I started praying for my future husband around six years when I was living in New York in 2013 and VERY single. I loved that season and was happy and content. I knew that it was God’s will for me to be married one day so I had to trust His timing and wait patiently for him to come into my life.
As the years when by, there were definitely times when I was frustrated and wondered if my prayer would be answered. I went through seasons of doubting God. There were times when I looked at what was happening in the natural and fear creeped in.
I realised that I can’t walk by faith and be fearful at the same time. Its either I believed God or not, it was my decision. I decided to take God at his word and simply believe by putting by faith into action.
I got busy focusing on my relationship with God and getting myself ready by gaining wisdom and knowledge about marriage and being a wife even though there was no man in sight. I bought the book ‘The Power of a Praying Wife’ by Stormie Omartian and I prayed for my husband BY FAITH. I didn’t know who he was but God did!!
During the process of waiting, God is moulding and shaping us into the way He wants us to be. It’s a time of preparation and it is a wonderful opportunity to get ready for what we are praying for by FAITH. I realised that my season of singleness was a gift from God and an opportunity to prepare for my future husband so I learnt to embrace it and enjoyed that season.
I knew it was only a matter of time before God brought him into my life so I made the most of my single season. I got BUSY travelling around the world, writing my blog and fulfilling my purpose. I let go and let God do what only He can do. Sometimes we can be too controlling!!
The change in our seasons is not in our hands; God is in control of our seasons, so REST in him (See the blog I wrote Seasons). Be grateful for YOUR portion and where God has you NOW on the way to where you are going.
Make it a priority to let your light shine and to use your time, resources, money and God given abilities to intentionally be a blessing to other people while you are waiting. “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven,” Matthew 5:16. I got myself off my mind and got busy doing my Fathers business. When we take care of God’s business, he takes care of ours.
“Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well,” Matthew 6:33.
At 34 and after several years of waiting patiently, I met my now fiancé in March 2016 at a Christian Single’s Ministry in London called Kingdom Connections. I saw him at numerous social events but the most we did throughout 2016 was exchange pleasantries. Our conversations lasted no longer than 2 minutes. I was letting my light shine and he saw it and was observing me quietly for MONTHS without saying a word.
He later confessed that he read all of my blogs and everything I wrote on social media to form an opinion of my character. While observing me from a distance he was listening out for his wife.
It was 1 year later in March 2017 that he randomly called me up and asked me to go for a drink. I was not expecting the call and had no idea he liked me but agreed because I couldn’t think of an excuse quick enough. I honestly wasn’t interested, I was just being polite!!!
After months of him pursuing and me ignoring his text messages and phone calls and putting him in the friend zone. I decided to give him a chance and take the time to actually get to know him as a friend. I’m glad I did.
He is a gift from God and a true blessing. His words of wisdom gave me the comfort I needed during my Dad’s illness and death in October 2017 (See the blog Let me See). He always knew what to say and when to listen to me ramble on for hours. He is my best friend, prayer partner and encourager. He is a man of God who loves God and is humble and teachable.
After, FIVE months of courting he proposed in December 2017 and we are planning our wedding in the second quarter of 2018. The wait was worth it!!
Your wait on God will not be in vain!! Keep praying, patiently wait on God, be a blessing to others, pursue wisdom and virtue and get busy preparing for marriage BY FAITH!!
God is faithful. TRUST HIM!!!
