STEP ONE: Take a Step

Everyone wants to know God’s master plan for their life. You may have asked the question: Lord, what is my purpose? What is my gift? What did you create me to do? These are all great questions to ask but if God revealed his master plan for your life you’d be so amazed and blown away that you probably wouldn’t be able to handle it. As we seek him God reveals himself through the Holy Spirit who gives instructions on what to do. What has the Holy Spirit instructed you to do? God’s plan/purpose has already been pre-arranged but in order to see it manifested in our lives it requires us to TAKE A STEP forward by faith as led by the Holy Spirit even when it doesn’t make sense and we have loads of questions with no immediate answers.

“I will give you every place where you set your foot as I promised Moses. Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates-all the Hittite country-to the Mediterranean Sea in the West,” Joshua 1:3.

God told Joshua that Moses was dead and he was now in charge and he had to lead the children of Israel to the Promised Land.  Joshua was told that the land ahead of him had already been given to him but all he had to do was take a step and keep on walking to possess it. I can imagine that Joshua was really scared and he probably felt inadequate and unprepared for the huge task he’d been given.

STEP ONE to exploring God’s master plan for our life is to TAKE A STEP forward by faith. I know it’s scary and easier said than done. I get it!! Starting this blog was very scary. People who have heard me talk would come up to me and say: “Do you have a blog? and I’d say “errrr NAH but thanks”. I ignored them!!! Then I was on holiday in St Lucia for my birthday in September last year as I sat on the beach relaxing in the sunshine and listening to the sound of the ocean with no one else around me the Holy Spirit gave me some specific instructions and one was to start a blog. I was not pleased and wondered why I’d be asked to do this. I had zero confidence about my writing ability and absolutely no desire to do this so I made excuses and said ‘I was busy’ and someone else would be more suited for the assignment. I came back to London and was convicted by the Holy Spirit so I had to take a step and start it even though I really didn’t want too!!! I thought what’s in it for me?  Then I realised that it’s not about me. God will use whoever and whatever he wants to achieve his predetermined purpose. “My gift” to write was never designed for me to keep its to be used to encourage/bless other people. A blog requires transparency and I’m really not the most transparent person. I had to humbly summit but I can assure you it was with an attitude.

God already knew that Joshua would be scared so he had to constantly remind him: “I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and courageous…,” Joshua 1:5. Fear is what keeps us paralysed and stops us from taking a step forward. One of the main fears is of “other people’s opinion”. What will they think? What will they say? As long as you know your value in Christ seriously, Who cares what people think? (See the blog I wrote “Gucci Doesn’t Goes on Sale”). Fear can keep us in the same position sometimes for years. I’ll remind you…..” God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind,” 2 Timothy 1:7.  It’s so easy to come up with legitimate excuses as to why we cannot and will not move forward.

It reminds me of the paralyzed man in John 6 who laid by the Pool of Bethesda for 38 years waiting for someone to help him to get into the pool so that he could be healed. Jesus asked him: “Do you want to get well?” (John 5:6) since there was nothing in his behaviour that showed that he wanted to be healed. Perhaps he liked his situation…maybe he got used to it. In 38 years, he laid in his condition doing nothing but make excuses. “Jesus said to him, “Get up!! Pick up your mat and walk.” (John 5:8). In other words, GET UP AND DO SOMETHING!!!!!! TAKE A STEP!!!!!!!!

You can say all you want and pray all you want but until you TAKE A STEP forward by faith nothing will change!! My favourite is: “I’m waiting on God.” Errrr that’s a good one, God is actually waiting on you to TAKE A STEP and do something. As we do our part using the wisdom and knowledge that God has given us. God does his part but God cannot bless what we will not do!! There is a difference in “waiting on God” and doing nothing like the man by the Pool of Bethesda and “waiting on God” while praying, preparing, speaking the Word of God, serving, seeking the face of God, believing, resting in his promises and prayerfully taking steps forward to what we desire by faith. The only difference between you and the person that you admire is that they took a step forward even with their fears and they kept moving forward.

I encourage you that if you REALLY want it [the job, the promotion, the house, the healing, the financial freedom, the relationship etc], TAKE A STEP and go get it in 2017. “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord and he delights in his way,” Psalm 37: 23. You may say: “well, I tried and it didn’t work out for me.” Try again and TAKE A STEP and keep on walking and do it afraid. Too many people are in church every week but they’re stagnant because they’re waiting for God to do everything for them. Its time to Get up!! Pick up your mat and walk.” (John 5:8).

It’s a New Year and I’m sure you have goals that you’d like to achieve this year. So, what are you doing about it? If you only take one step then that’s all you will get but if you keep on walking step by step by faith you’ll possess everything God has already prepared for you and God will get the glory. As you take steps forward the Holy Spirit will lead/direct you and reveal more to you as you keep walking by faith (See the blog I wrote on faith Fighting the Good Fight) I can’t promise that it will be easy. You’ll probably be inconvenienced, it will be uncomfortable at times and you’ll have to get out of your comfort zone.

Its time to take ACTION. Its time to pray, time to believe, time to save some money, time to buy that flat/house, time to trust, time to love again, time to commit, time to create a business plan, time to lose weight, time to change your diet, time to work out, time to get in the studio, time to start that business, time to get a new job, time to ask that Girl out, time to give the guy that asks you out a chance, time to say bye to purposeless relationships, time to forgive, time to heal and a time for a new beginning. Seriously, ITS TIME to take a step forward!!

Have faith in God!! He’s SO FAITHFUL.

  1. Wow, thank you Stacy. This was such a timely word. Thank you for the word of God and your honesty. I really enjoyed it, you most definitely had me giggling. God bless you for your obedience, you may have been unwilling in the beginning (I am sure that soon changed) but you still stepped out. It’s time for me to do the same. God bless you dearest
